We offer any custom hole size as well as standard fastener hole sizes. For structural applications that entail heavy loads, we strongly advise through bolting the Joist Hangers with 1/2" diameter fasteners to guarantee uncompromised stability and safety for your rustic iron joist supports.

As a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence, we must inform you that we do not recommend installing any of our overhead metal braces with clavos. We prioritize your safety above all else and want to ensure that every installation is done in the most secure manner possible. We do, however, recommend using lags or bolts of a diameter larger than 5/8" for any and all structural applications.

Joist Hangers & Beam Brackets – Collection FAQs

1. What are joist hangers and beam brackets used for?
Joist hangers and beam brackets support structural beams, joists, rafters, pergolas, decks, and timber-frame assemblies. They provide critical load-bearing strength while adding a finished architectural look.

2. How are your joist hangers different from standard construction brackets?
Old West Iron hangers are made from thicker steel, cut with cleaner precision, and hand-finished for authentic forged texture. Unlike thin galvanized construction brackets, ours combine structural integrity with Old World, decorative styling.

3. How do I choose the right size joist hanger or beam bracket?
Measure your beam or joist width and height, then select a bracket sized for a snug and proportional fit. For load-bearing applications, choose thicker steel or heavy-duty profiles. Always match your bolts or screws to the bracket’s pre-drilled hole size.

4. What finishes and textures are available?
Brackets are available in matte black, natural iron, oil-rubbed bronze, and hand-distressed rustic finishes. Hammered, peened, and antique textures are applied in-house to coordinate with our straps, bolts, and timber hardware collections.

5. Are these joist hangers and brackets hand-forged?
The bracket bodies are precision-cut for accuracy, while decorative rivets, edges, and surface textures are hand-worked by our American blacksmiths. This gives each piece the rugged, historic look associated with traditional wrought iron.

6. What are the lead times and where are they made?
Most joist hangers and beam brackets ship within 1–10 business days, depending on finish, size, and customization. All decorative and custom-finished brackets are made or finished in the USA at our Idaho forge.
