Your Order and Shipping: What You Need to Know

Your Order and Shipping: What You Need to Know

At Old West Iron, we know our products aren’t just another box of hardware. They’re custom-forged works of iron, made to match your project down to the finest detail. That’s why we package every item carefully, double-check your preferences, and work hard to ensure smooth, timely delivery from our forge to your front door.

When you place an order with Old West Iron, you’re not just purchasing hardware — you’re investing in handcrafted ironwork forged with pride. We take shipping just as seriously as the products we create. That’s why we’ve put together this guide to help you understand how your order is processed, shipped, and delivered, and how you can communicate preferences for carriers like USPS or UPS.

Here’s everything you need to know before your package hits the road.

UPS vs USPS – Which Shipping Carrier is the Best for You?

How We Choose Your Shipping Method

Every order is unique — from a single drawer pull to a full set of custom brackets — and so is the way we ship it. While we offer multiple carrier options, our goal is always the same: to deliver your order safely, quickly, and at the best possible rate.

Unless otherwise specified, our team will automatically choose the most cost-effective and time-efficient shipping method available for your order and location.

In most cases, this means your order will ship via USPS Standard Mail. But for heavier or oversized packages, we may upgrade your shipping to UPS Ground at no extra cost to ensure your items arrive intact and on time.

USPS Standard Shipping – Our Default

USPS is our go-to carrier for the majority of orders. It’s reliable, economical, and ideal for:

  • Small to medium-sized hardware

  • Decorative items like clavos and screws

  • Drawer pulls, cabinet handles, latches, and light-duty hinges

  • Orders shipping to PO boxes and rural addresses

Most orders under a certain weight or size threshold will ship USPS unless you request otherwise.

When We Use UPS

While USPS is great for smaller packages, UPS becomes necessary for certain orders — particularly those that are large, bulky, or heavy.

You may receive your order via UPS Ground if:

  • The package exceeds USPS size or weight limits

  • The contents include long or heavy items like hinge straps, angle braces, or iron doors

  • You're located in a region where UPS can offer faster or more secure delivery

We do not charge extra for switching to UPS when it's the best fit for your order. In fact, our goal is always to get your order to you in the safest, fastest, and most affordable way possible.

Can’t Receive USPS? Let Us Know!

We understand that some customers are unable to receive deliveries via USPS — for example, if you live in a remote area or your address only accepts UPS. That’s not a problem.

Simply leave a note in the order comments at checkout that says:

“Please do not ship USPS”
or
“UPS delivery only — cannot receive USPS at this address.”

We’ll make sure your order is routed accordingly.

This simple step helps us avoid delays, returns, or delivery issues and ensures your package gets to you the first time, without hassle.

Special Requests and Custom Shipping Notes

If you have any special shipping requests — such as holding a delivery at a UPS location, requiring a signature on delivery, or combining multiple orders — feel free to leave a detailed note at checkout or email our support team. We review every order comment and do our best to accommodate where possible.

 Important Shipping Reminders

  • Orders are processed in the order they are received, and most ship within our standard lead time (which varies based on the item’s production time).

  • Tracking numbers are sent via email as soon as your order ships. If you don’t see it, check your spam or promotions folder.

  • We are not responsible for delays caused by carriers, but we will always assist you in tracking your package and resolving any issues with delivery.
