Saddles & Multi-Directional Hangers – Collection FAQs

1. What are saddles and multi-directional hangers used for?
These brackets support beams that connect from multiple directions—such as in pergolas, pavilions, timber-frame joints, transitional rooflines, and complex structural layouts. They provide secure seating for beams while creating rigid, stable junctions.

2. How are your saddles and hangers different from standard construction brackets?
Old West Iron components are built from thicker steel with cleaner cuts and reinforced geometry. Each piece is hand-finished with forged-style textures, offering both structural reliability and Old World craftsmanship not found in light, galvanized store-bought brackets.

3. How do I choose the right saddle or multi-directional hanger?
Measure the width and height of the beams you’re joining, along with the angle and direction of each connection. Choose a saddle that fits your timber snugly and supports the full load path. Always match bolt diameter to the product’s pre-drilled holes.

4. What finishes and textures are available?
These brackets are available in matte black, natural iron, oil-rubbed bronze, and hand-distressed rustic finishes. Our hammered, peened, and antique textures are applied in-house to coordinate with our straps, bolts, and architectural hardware.

5. Are these saddles and hangers hand-forged?
Structural bodies are precision-cut for accuracy, while textures, rivet details, edge work, and finishes are hand-applied by our American blacksmiths. This gives each piece the rugged authenticity of traditional wrought iron.

6. What are the lead times and where are they made?
Most saddles and multi-directional hangers ship within 1–10 business days, depending on finish, size, and customization. All decorative and custom-finished pieces are made or finished in the USA at our Idaho forge.
