Renaissance Iron Door Knocker Update
After writing the above review we corresponded with Old West Iron. It developed that the Oil Rubbed Bronze finish was indeed on our knocker; it just was darker than we had anticipated. Our error. After having the knocker on the door for a few days, we had another concern – the ring was (intentionally) designed to swing freely and to hang so it just barely kissed the striking surface. As a result, every time the door was even slightly moved or bumped, the knocker would knock. Functioning as a door knocker it gives a satisfyingly loud knock when used by someone – just what we wanted. But the (lesser) knocking every time the door was moved or bumped we found mildly annoying. We determined that adding a ¼ inch thick striker plate on top of the door knocker would change the angle of repose of the knocker ring, and lessen the incidental knocking. We collaborated with Old West Iron on a design for the striker plate and they produced it. It arrived today, with hammered edges and Oil Rubbed Bronze finish (slightly lighter than the original knocker – they look just fine together). Also included for mounting were 2 pan head slotted screws and two button head slotted screws (both with hammered edges – giving us options for mounting as only 2 screws are needed to mount the added striker plate). These screws were more substantial in size compared to the three cute little pan head slotted screws originally supplied with the door knocker. Also included were 8 washers (which we opted not to use). All hardware had Oil Rubbed Bronze finish. We mounted the added striker plate using the 2 pan head slotted screws, pre-drilling the holes first (as we also had in our initial installation). The installation went smoothly and the pan head screws were screwed in without difficulty. Had these somewhat larger pan head slotted screws been supplied with our original door knocker they would have been just fine for the original installation. In our original installation of the door knocker we used black hex head screws that we had on hand. Today we replaced the bottom hex head screw (adjacent to the new striker plate) with one of the supplied button head screws. This installation was more difficult, as the screw driver kept climbing out of the screw slot, somewhat damaging the screw head. The added striker plate does not completely eliminate the incidental knocking, but with care it is now possible to move the door without knocking, and even when it does knock incidentally, the volume of the knock is greatly reduced. Overall, we are very happy with the door knocker, and also with the added striker plate. We are also very happy with the responsiveness of Old West Iron to our concerns, and with their willingness to work with us on the added striker plate. We would highly recommend them to anyone interested in their products.

Renaissance Iron Door Knocker
We ordered the Renaissance Iron Door Knocker, Iron Ring Pull - 10" x 11¼" x 6" (large because of the design of the door), Texture: Hammered Edges, Finish: Oil Rubbed Bronze, Include Fasteners. It arrived in about a month, as promised. It required some minor modifications to install on our door, but this was anticipated and went smoothly. It arrived with 3 of the cutest little screws for mounting - there were supposed to be 4 screws. We readily replaced them with 4 more substantial screws we had on hand - no problem. It was ordered with a Oil Rubbed Bronze finish, at slightly increased price, but arrived with the cheaper black paint finish - disappointing, but we can live with it. Overall it is a well-made and substantial door knocker, a fine addition to our 1914 Craftsman house and original front door.
