Signature old west wrought iron finishes that won't cost you a bank heist.

My son and I were working on two projects concurrently this summer for which we needed economical authentic-looking period wrought iron hardware. I found Old West Iron online with reasonable pricing, great variety and finishing options. We were making a hammock chair stand to accommodate a lovely knit Mayan hammock chair from Hammock Universe for my spouse for Mother's Day. I imagined it could be hung from a couple of Douglass Fir 4X4's from Home Depot that approximated the dimensions of the metal hammock chair stand that we found on-line, although we eventually had to modify our design to accommodate the flex of the 4X4 lumber. We utilized antiqued sanding accents to give the appearance of aged hand worked timbers from the American west, along with some mission style pergola fixtures from Simpson Strong-tie, Timber-Locks and wrought iron baluster from for strength and support to the mast. We varnished and poly-urethaned the timbers and then we just needed a signature wrought iron finishing piece. The “S hook” pictured on the main mast was not expensive and gave the furniture piece that final touch it needed. I tacked it on with two small steel nails. All of my children, and I myself, love spinning and relaxing in mom’s hammock chair. Thanks Old West Iron.
